I’m an independent consultant: infrastructure, CI/CD, Python, and lately the work of making codebases and pipelines fit for AI-assisted development.

Teams usually call me when something has quietly gotten expensive. A deployment process that eats people for days. A Terraform setup nobody dares touch. AI tooling that demos well but falls apart on the real codebase. I find what’s making delivery slow or fragile, fix it, and leave it in a state the team can run without me.

What that gets you

At Energyworx I inherited a Terraform/Kubernetes platform that had grown organically. By the time I left, deployments had gone from three people spending multiple days every six months to one person babysitting a script for a few minutes, monthly. Across many production environments.

From people I worked with there:

“I truly see Rutger as a ‘force multiplier’ for any development team. As our Senior DevOps Engineer, he brought strong expertise in infrastructure provisioning, automating deployments, and embedding best practices, which consistently enabled us to do more with the same number of people.”

Mick Wierenga, VP of Software Development at Energyworx

“One of the best Senior DevOps Engineers I’ve worked with.”

Daniel Sousa, IT Service Manager at Energyworx

Practical details

I work through De Knijf ICT, my one-person BV, since 2007. Based in Leiden; remote and on-site in the Netherlands both work. Engagements tend to turn into long working relationships: 11 years with 360 Quality Association, 4.5 each with Sanoma, Reshift, and Energyworx. I stay while I’m useful.
